Personality and History
Personality
Natalia is a passionate person, often going into situations with her head and heart and with little thought beforehand. This was, in part, the reason she had been considered for Gryffindor. This comes across in her teaching style as her passion for the subject is clear for anyone to see and is probably why she's a good Professor. Though at times she can be a bit absentminded due to the fact that she's still new to it all, a fact that students like to joke with her about - her first third year class (now sixth years which makes her feel very old) still joke about and remind her of the time she lost them in the Forbidden Forrest. She lets them joke about it as she wants to be a Professor people feel comfortable around, at least the students that she likes.

Towards those she dislikes what she dubs her 'Ravenclaw Wit,' comes out and she can be overly blunt and sarcastic. Unafraid of hurting a students feelings if she thinks they're being disruptive or disrespectful, the only time it goes further than a sarcastic remark and ended up as a full-blown shouting match was when a student put an animal in danger as she tried to show off to her friends. That girl was promptly transferred to muggle studies where she could do no further harm.

She probably shouldn't have said half of the things she had, though luckily for her most of it had been in French so she hadn't been too concerned with the student understanding the insults hurtled her way, and readily admits to any student that asks about it that whilst she doesn't regret it she can and will admit that she was in the wrong. Since then she's tried to keep a tighter rein on her temper, a trait she gets from her Mother.

Natalia is a Professor that is either loved or hated by her students, her Care of Magical Creatures students tend to like her and find her lessons fun and amusing whilst other students, that have only heard stories and rumours, think she's a bit strange. She is but she doesn't see that as a bad thing, she guesses it's the Ravenclaw in her.

Background
Born in the French city of Lille to Lucia Guichard and Alistair Higson in 1997, the couples fourth and unexpected daughter. She was the baby of the family, the youngest in both her immediate and extended family, and so wanted for nothing. Her sisters loved having a baby sister to fuss over and her parents adored her, so she had a happy and loving childhood.

When she was eleven she was due to start at Beaubatons and follow in her sisters footsteps, who had all already attended Beaubaxtons, when her Father informed her that his post at the French Ministry meant he'd have to move to England to liaise with the British Ministry of Magic. At first, she'd been upset, crying and shouting, at the news she was going to be torn away from her friends and extended family. Torn away from the city she'd loved and explored to the point of feeling like she knew every nook and cranny and she'd wanted to attend Beaubaxtons like her sisters.

Her Father had taken her aside and told her about Hogwarts, the school he'd attended, and managed to convince her that it wouldn't be so bad. Especially when he told her about Care of Magical Creatures, at Beaubaxtons it was a subject but you could only opt to take it during your Fifth year whilst at Hogwarts it was a third year elective.

She'd always loved animals, magical and muggle alike, so the idea of getting three extra years to learn about the magical ones seemed great. Though she was still sad about leaving everything she knew behind this soothed her slightly and as the date came closer she became more and more excited about attending Hogwarts. Her eldest sister had opted to stay with their Aunt and Uncle and finish her time at Beaubaxtons as she was already further ahead in her studies than her younger siblings, though she promised to always come and visit during the Holidays.

They moved to England, a former farmhouse estate in the Yorkshire countryside, a mere fortnight before Natalia was due to start at Hogwarts. Meaning the trip to Diagon-Alley to get the necessary school supplies had been a somewhat chaotic and rushed event with Natalia unable to properly explore the area as much as she would have liked.

Then September 1st came and Natalia had woken up at the crack of dawn, eager and excited to attend her new school. The trip to Kingscross Station and ride on the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts was a bit of a blur, although Natalia was proud of the fact that she managed to make some friends despite a slight language barrier due to her accent. (Her Father being English meant that she knew the language fluently but being raised in France meant she still adopted a French accent.) Hogwarts struck her as being beautiful, not at all what she'd expected - she could admit that she'd been expecting it to be a bit plain compared to Beaubaxtons but it wasn't.

Her sorting ceremony had boarded on being a Hatstall as the hat debated between Gryffindor, due to her somewhat headstrong and determined nature, and Ravenclaw, due to her desire to learn and her intelligence. Lasting just under four minutes the hat finally uttered "RAVENCLAW!" And Natalia made her way to the table.

Sometimes she wondered what would have happened if things had went the other way but she thinks the end result would have still been the same.

The next three years passed as normally as possible, she got into her fair amount of trouble and made friends and enemies as any student would have. But then the moment she'd been waiting for arrived, the chance to choose electives and, with no hesitation, she chose Care of Magical Creatures and then after some debate settled upon Ancient Runes as her second elective.

Whilst she struggled somewhat with the latter she excelled with the former and fell in love with the subject, striving to learn everything she could about the subject. Getting an 'O' in her OWLS and NEWTS she decided to become a Magizoologist, at first training under the Ministry before going freelance for a few years and volunteering in a few studies that attempted to document all the magical animals.

She did this for eight years, from the age of twenty-six until the age of thirty four,  amassing quite the index of magical animals and creatures. Though this wasn't due to soley her as it was a large collection of Magizoologists working at it across the Globe.  It was on this study that she met Jemma, a fellow Magizoologist, and the two became fast friends though this quickly turned to something more. Not that Natalia had ever thought it would happen.

Once the study was done, due to a mixture of funding and an acceptance they couldn't find everything there was, Natalia found herself at a loss of what to do next until she remembered where she had fallen in love with the subject in the first place.

She wrote to the Headmaster of Hogwarts to enquire about a formal teaching post as a Care of Magical Creatures Professor and received a reply that they were looking for one, she had most of the formal training and enough practical experience in the subject to allow her to take on the position of the Professor at the start of the next Academic Year. Although she'd been terrified for most of it, faced with challenges she hadn't anticipated and the hellish task of marking essays she couldn't help but feel she was failing miserably.

Though as time went on she grew in confidence and went on to become a respected Professor, even if it wasn't unheard of for her to lose her temper with reckless students once in a while or rant at someone who took the subject in an attempt at getting an easy pass. And during her first year, she had lost a class in the Forbidden Forrest after sending them in there to find as many tracks as they could.

Natalia, for the students, can be an acquired taste but her heart is in her Profession and no one could ever deny that she's passionate about the subject that she teaches. She's happy to set up study groups and extra practical sessions, doing everything she can in her power to help the students she feels deserves it. Though if she thinks you're simply not trying as opposed to struggling she'll leave you to it without losing any sleep over that decision at night.

She's been a Profesor for just over four years.
