Personality and History

Bianca is someone who you seriously don’t want to mess with unless you’re on a suicide mission. She is a rude and brash person, even occasionally described as being cruel. She doesn’t shy away from lying and manipulating. She is shown to be cunning and manipulating, quite resourceful in fact. Bianca doesn’t need anyone, the woman is all independent and carries herself proudly.


You might be thinking, she matches the description of a Slytherin perfectly. Then why was she sorted in Gryffindor back in her time? The answer is, Bianca portrays all the negative sides too that Gryffindors have. They might be a bit attention-seeking and overly confident. They’re also very determined and passionate. She is not all rotten. Bianca is extremely brave and courageous. She forms very strong bonds with people - some might even call her a tad bit possessive. She holds on fast to these bonds and protects her close ones very fiercely. She has a fiery and especially short temper.


Albeit she has a passive-aggressive nature, she is interested in the best of her students and she puts on her best behavior around them. Bianca believes that as long as the students listen to her and work hard, she’ll remain cool, calm and collected. She has a strict and old-fashioned way of thinking and teaching. She holds traditions close to her heart and is never afraid to be herself. You’d think that the astronomy teacher has her head in the clouds, but she is very grounded and organized. You either hate her, or you love her, that she has learned throughout the years.

Speaking of the years, she was born in November 12th, Alresford. This makes her a Scorpio, in case you’re interested. Her mother Leah was an arithmancer, her father Ezra a journalist for the Daily prophet. She was mostly raised by her grandparents as her parents were very busy and tried to provide for the whole family. She had (still has) a very strong relationship with her sister Isobel. Most of her family that had attended Hogwarts had been Slytherins, but a few Gryffindors popped every other century here and there. Her family was quite traditional in the sense that they didn’t allow muggles to marry into the family but lax enough to let their offspring marry half-bloods and socialize with Muggle-borns. Even so, Bianca grew up with a sense of superiority over muggle-born wizards and witches.

She had always known what she wanted to be as an adult. Bianca had always been good at a few subjects, namely astronomy, transfiguration, divination, and arithmancy. The rest didn’t matter to her at all. She has many fond memories with her grandparents linked to astronomy. Bianca was, and still is, an insomniac. She’d often wake her grandparents up and ask for them to watch the stars with her until she fell asleep. Lucky for her, she lived far away from the bright lights of the large cities in the United Kingdom. Bianca was always fascinated with how the stars moved from the previous night. By the age of 7, she could already name a myriad of constellations.

She attended Hogwarts just like she predicted. Bianca was sure that she’d be a Slytherin but she proved to be one of those Gryffindor snowflakes that sometimes popped in the Adelstein family. Her parents didn’t think much of houses, the curriculum was still the same for everyone. Bianca found herself many friends from Gryffindor and Slytherin. Sometimes even a few Ravenclaw study buddies. Hufflepuffs seemed to always steer clear from her. Probably because Bianca was a typical bully.


See she was an overachiever that liked to appease to her family. Her family was happy and they all got along well, but they liked to measure a person’s worth by their talent and achievements. She liked to prove herself and the glory that came with that. With the spotlight came pressure. She outed that pressure and insecurity on other students. Nowadays she has developed a thick skin against pressure and doesn’t sway no matter what.


Bianca has probably crushed the self-confidence of tens of students. Bianca and her sister led a clique in Hogwarts for years. A clique that showed their brilliance in classes, wore only dark colors, did homework together and always stood up for each other. This same clique would also pick on their peers the moment the teachers turned their backs on them. Over the years she matured and stopped bullying people so openly. It turned into menacing stares, crossing her arms and rolling of her eyes, treating people like air. Destroying people’s self-confidence in a more subtle way.


Bianca graduated Hogwarts with stellar grades. To the dismay of her family, she went on to study astronomy in Glasgow (don’t tell anyone, she broke the law as she didn’t have a diploma that would work in the muggle world so she had to use her wand and a few incantations to get in)  and got her ‘muggle degree’ as her family calls it. She went on to observe the stars in Barcelona for a few years before coming back to Alresford. Now what? She was educated but broke. Her family refused to support her financially, it was time for her to stand on her own two feet. She saw the astronomy teacher position open in Hogwarts and immediately hurried to apply. She became one of the youngest teachers there at the age of 27. She has grown to like her job enough to stay around for 15 years.
