Personality and History
Born into a well-known wizarding family from London, Wilson was a Wunderking from the start. His magical powers were exceptional and his parents taught him some of the more advanced spells even before he got his invitation to Hogwarts. Destined to be sorted into Ravenclaw like his father, the Sorting Hat saw something in him, something even he did not know was there, and put him into Gryffindor. Due to his great intelligence and excellent memory, he excelled academically and was, by all standards, the brightest pupil in Hogwarts during his time. He mastered all the classes and was soon taught even the most advanced magic by his mentors. But, although a time of great learning, school was also a very lonely place for Wilson. Introverted and socially distant, he did not have many friends and socialized mostly with two of his most important mentors - professors Doyle and McCoy. This resulted in him being not just isolated, but antagonized by his peers, who deemed him untrustworthy; although, he did serve as tactical advisor to the Gryffindor Quidditch team, despite not being capable of playing the game well enough himself. Upon completing his N.E.W.T.'s, Wilson embarked on an academic trip around Europe to master the more obscure branches of magic, including the Dark Arts.
Used to doing everything by himself, Wilson was absent for almost a year before he returned to the Ministry of Magic and got a position as an Auror. He was soon disappointed with the Ministry's bureaucratic structure and left, taking up a teaching position (Muggle Studies) at Hogwarts. Interestingly enough, the wizard considered by many to be one of the most powerful and most capable among them, took up a subject where no magic was needed; he wanted to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts, but the position was taken. He explained it with his enthusiasm for teaching, being genuinely happy with his position. Although considered cold and emotionally crippled, Wilson was popular among the students because of his specific humor, his passionate teaching style and his willingness to help those in need. After the retirement of Minerva McGonagall, Wilson applied for the position of Headmaster, using his reputation with the Ministry to gain a favorable outcome. At the age of 40, James W. Wilson became the youngest Headmaster in Hogwarts' history.

He'd gotten out alive. He saved a couple of lives. His mentor had gone into retirement because he could not stand another war like that. Doyle resigned as professor, but stayed as Headmaster. He was now the only one left within the halls, the professor of Defence Against the Dark Arts. James William Wilson managed to survive the attack on Hogwarts, another one, and was now enjoying his well-deserved vacation. Just yesterday, he returned from Paris where he had spent a week resting with his family and he was now rediscovering the streets of London he had not seen in ages because of his duties at school.
He strolled through Diagon Alley, observing the people and the shops that had changed since the time was here at the age of 11. It was not that long ago, he was not an old man, but still, things managed to change, as they always do. Relentlessly and mercilessly. He wondered how interesting it would have been to observe the changes firsthand, to observe time doing its job within this small, narrow place accessible only to the few lucky ones that posses magical abilities. But, he comforted himself with the fact that he had, in fact, witnessed history, the history of Hogwarts, the academic institution that had made him into what he is today. Witnessing that was something special and something he was glad to have been a part of. In some way, his name shall be remembered within the archives of the school, both as a professor and as acting Headmaster on a couple of occasions. He smiled.
As his tall persona moved through the bodies that paraded Diagon Alley, Wilson managed to hit something he soon realized was a human being. Habitually observing what was in front of him, Wilson was usually quite successful in avoiding obstacles, which is why he mechanically stopped looking downwards. That was, obviously, a mistake. He was not pleased with how his observational stroll ended. He repositioned his glasses and observed the child he had obviously bumped into. His eyes widened. He was, and that was a ghastly euphemism, surprised to see that the child he had hit was actually his student, his pupil with whom he had some extra classes last term. He did not know how to react, so he just smiled stupidly and greeted her with a nod. ''It's... you'', he said, looking at her with a bewildered expression. His reaction was idiotic, he was well aware; he was a bloody professor, her professor, and not some teenage brat with a crush. Yet, he lacked the necessary social skills, but also the necessary company to develop them, which is why his reaction turned out to be expected, if not normal. He grinned at the young girl once again, as if to say he was sorry. Sorry for hitting her. And sorry for not knowing how to react.
